Fuel Cell Bus Design and Deployment
How Tim Participated:

  • 2000 - 2003 Vancouver BC: Lead engine control software team for Daimler fuel cell bus
  • 2003 - 2006 Germany: Lead field service across 10 European cities
  • 2006 - 2008 Vancouver BC: Lead Ballard's 6th generation fuel cell bus module electrical team, powering the buses serving the 2010 Olympics
  • 2018 - 2024 California & beyond: Developed North American fuel cel bus market, growing over 20x across this time, building funding and supporting regulations while educating and developing new field demonstrations

Home Wind Power - First UL Certification​

​What Tim Did:
  • Built and lead a small engineering team to redesign the world's leading sub-kilowatt wind turbine, leading to tripling of sales at 1/10 of the prior warranty rate
  • Designed fully analog turbine control board with variable hysteresis, PWM controlled active rectifier, and various automated testing and data collection equipment
  • ​Co-wrote the world's first small wind turbine IEC design standard, then successfully certified our turbine to this standard with UL!

400kW Distributed Generation Turbine: Concept to Hardware

​What Tim Did:
​
Architectural design of first sub-megawatt variable speed induction generator wind turbine
  • Lead small design team for structural, powertrain, electrical, blade and nacelle design, from concept to functional hardware on the floor in under one year



Wind Power Utility Inter-tied Converter Development
What I did:
  • Lead power electronics design team to create a first-of-a-kind silicon carbine 60kW single PCB power converter
  • Project management for testing facility 
  • Electromechanical simulation of large rotor short circuit events​

Camp Pendleton Microgrid
Blackstart Capable Microgrid, with 100kWh Flywheel  

What I did:
  • ​Design of microgrid control strategy for PV + flywheel storage microgrid at Camp Pendleton
  • Design and build of microgrid testing facility, with multiple storage technologies including flow batteries, flywheels, and salt water batteries
  • Testing and validation of CEC funding microgrid project
